2563414 - Position Org Chart Display Logic

Symptom

What is the display logic applied to the Position Org Chart.

Image/data in this KBA is from SAP internal systems, sample data, or demo systems. Any resemblance to real data is purely coincidental.

Environment

SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central - Position Management

Resolution

For further information on how to set up the position org chart and more details on this feature please review the following handbook:
Employee Central Position Management  - Setting Up The Position Organization Chart

Position Order:

  • There is no ordering to the display of Positions in a Hierarchy Line/Row.
You are not able to define the order the positions appear in.

  • If 15 or less positions exist on a hierarchy line, these positions will be displayed side by side.
If more than 15 positions exist on a hierarchy line, the position will be displayed in a List View:
2267537 - List View Layout of Position Org Chart

  • There is no way to customize the order in which incumbents will be displayed in a shared/mass position.
By system logic the incumbents will be displayed by userID.

Search Functionality:

  • When you navigate away from the Position Org Chart and then back to it, by system design the last searched position should show.
  • The People Search function, does not respect the Display Date selected on the Positon Org chart. The People Search Functionality always search on Today's date.
The user will have to have permission to the Job Info Position field, in order to search by the incumbent of a position using the Search By People Feature.

Position Tile Fields:
You can enable which fields show on the position tile and their order:
2262771 - How to change the order of the fields in which they appear in the Position tile in the position organization chart
Please note the fields on the tile will not show the field label. To see the label you can hover of the title or click the tile to see the Side Panel.

Side Panel:
You can change the order and visibility of each of the different Side Panel blocks which can be displayed for a Position.
Please review the following KBA:
2464841 - How To Change Order or Hide the Side Panels on the Position Org Chart (Employee Central)

Display Incumbent:
The incumbent of the position is not restricted by Role Based Permissions.
As long as you have permissions to view a position, you will be able to see the incumbent, regardless of whether that user is in you target permissions or not.

As mentioned above if you do not have permissions to view the position field on the Job Info of the incumbent you will not be able to search for them via the people search function, but you will still see them listed as the incumbent of the position.
If there are multiple incumbents in a position, currently there is no set logic to display the order of the multiple incumbents. They will be ordered by the order they are returned from the database, there is no set logic here.

Display Incumbent Name:

The name displayed is always the EP firstname+lastname on the tile.
As of the 2H 2021 Release in the incumbent history, side panel sections (incumbent details and right to return) and in the position sync and workflow pop-up, where incumbents have a middle name, this is also displayed.

Display Incumbents Photo:
You can enable the positon incumbent's photo to be displayed in the Position Org Chart via:  Admin > Org Chart Configuration > Position Organization Char
Employee Central Position Management  - Setting Up The Position Organization Chart

Incumbent Details section Display Order:

In the Incumbent Details section of the position side panel and in the incumbent history, incumbents are ordered by their position assignment date (most recent to least recent).

Display Options Icon:
The Display Options Button (Eye Icon), allows you to enable so different views in the Position Org Chart.

The three views which can be enabled here are:

  • Child Positions
  • Matrix Positions
  • Inactive Positions

Note: By default the system does not show the Matrix Positions in Position Org Chart. However, any user (or Proxied user) can change the settings in Display Options to show it.

Change Display Date:
In order to change the display date of the Position Org Chart via the calender function the user must have permission to "Manage Positions > Change Display Date of Position Organisation Chart"
The user will also require View History Permission to the Position Object in order for this to work.
This display date, allows the user to see the date as of a date in the future or past and so the user must be able to see the position history.
