Reproducing the Issue

  1. Start Crystal Reports Designer
  2. Click File > Open
  3. Crystal Reports crashes

Cause

The cause was not identified, but it proved to be related to a Workbench component and network location for saved Crystal Reports files.

Resolution

Workaround 1:

Before starting Crystal Reports navigate to the User's temp folder (by default: c:\users\<UserName>\AppData\Local\Crystal Reports) and delete projectexplorer.xml file. The file is used by Workbench component of CR Designer and holds the Workbench structure.

Workaround 2:

If you are using a Network location to store CR reports, try to move them all to a local Folder on machine hard drive. Restart Crystal Reports.
