Environment

  • SAP SuccessFactors HXM Suite
  • SAP SuccessFactors Talent Management
  • SAP SuccessFactors Compensation

Resolution

Available from Admin Tools > Company Processes & Cycles > Compensation > Compensation Home >  Select a Template > Plan Setup > Manage Users > Define Planners

  • From this screen you can define the planners using a graphical hierarchy view.
  • In form template menu under Plan Setup section, click on Manage Users dropdown and select Define Planners.

  • The Define Planners screen allows administrators to define and review the planner hierarchy before forms are launched to planners. The following actions are included on this screen:
  1. Choose the method of planning: Once worksheets are launched, this option becomes read-only. You can only make changes to the hierarchy before worksheets are launched.  Below are the hierarchy options:

    1. Standard Hierarchy: This hierarchy is based on the employee import that is also being used for the rest of the suite. The hierarchy will follow the management structure defined in the MANAGER field on the user data file.

    2. Rollup Hierarchy: This hierarchy allows you to rollup (or modify) planner responsibilities to managers higher up in the organization. Compensation planners are identified in the user data file with the planner flag COMPENSATION_PLANNER_XX, where XX is replaced with the form template number. Please confirm the appropriate flag with your PS Consultant.
    3. Custom Hierarchy: This hierarchy uses a compensation-specific hierarchy defined in the SECOND_MANAGER field on the user data file. Your consultant will help you determine if a separate management hierarchy is required for your compensation purposes.

  2. Navigate the chosen planning hierarchy: Search for the head of hierarchy or a specific planner to drill down the planning hierarchy. Use the triangle next to each planner to expand or collapse a hierarchy.

  3. As you navigate through the hierarchy, click on a planner name to see more details. Understand the number of planners and employees included in each hierarchy. See a list of employees included on a specific planner’s team.

  4. Run validation reports: Check for breaks in the planning hierarchy or other potential gaps. Select one of the reports from the dropdown to export.

Both reports include list of users with the following information: users without manager and ineligible users based on eligibility rules (or udf eligibility).

  • Conversely, any changes you make via your user import manager column is also going to change what you had set in this graphical view.
  • It is important to remember this is just a visual representation of your standard user data files.
  • You can use this tool also to determine if there is a break in the hierarchy logic using the "Troubleshooting Information" > Select Export Information or use the check tool to find any cyclic hierarchy.
