You have a requirement to extend the validity of an Org Unit to a past date (i.e changing the Valid From date of the Org Unit to a past date) but while doing so, system may throw below error messages:
Segment XYZ () still being used in projects
Cannot delete cost center XYZ (); it is the requesting unit of a project
Cannot delete cost center XYZ (); it is the responsible unit of a project
Profit center XYZ () still being used in projects
Cannot delete segment (); used in projects
Note: The solution provided in this document can be used even if the system throws any one of the above error message.
Cause
The cause for the issue is that you are trying to delete the above parameter from that org unit or altering the Validity of the above parameters in the Timelines tab of the Org Unit.
Resolution
Option 1: (If you want to split the Segment or Cost Center or Profit Center parameters)
- Go to Organizational Management work center.
- Select Edit Org Structures under Common Tasks.
- Set the Effective From date as DD.MM.YYYY (This is the date from which you want the Org Unit to valid).
- Highlight the Org Unit XYZ and go to Definitions tab.
- Check the Segment, Profit Center and Cost center attributes.
- Now, Set the Effective From date as DD1.MM1.YYYY1 (This is the current Valid From date of the Org Unit which you actually wanted to change).
- Highlight the Org Unit XYZ and go to Definitions tab.
- Uncheck the Managerial Definitions Segment, Profit Center and Cost center.
- Now, again check the Segment, Profit Center and Cost center.
- Go to Timelines tab and scroll down to Managerial section. You can find the validity of the definitions in two lines. i.e, first line from DD.MM.YYYY to one day before DD1.MM1.YYYY1 and second line from DD1.MM1.YYYY1 to Unlimited.
- Check the consistency of the Org Structure.
- Now, you can activate the Org Structure.
Option 2: (If you changed the valid From or Valid To date of Segment or Cost Center or Profit Center)
- Go to Organizational Management work center.
- Select Edit Org Structures under Common Tasks.
- Go to Timelines tab and scroll down to Managerial section
- Revert the Valid From or Valid To date to the actual date.
- Check the consistency of the Org Structure

Now, you can activate the Org Structure.
