Symptom
- Error: '{Database Field: <null>}'
- When refreshing a report in Crystal Reports that use Perform Grouping on Server, and having a group based an SQL Expression fields, it fails with the error:
Error: 'Record Selection: {Database Field: <null>}'
Environment
- SAP Crystal Reports 2008
Reproducing the Issue
- In Crystal Reports, create a report off any data source.
- Create a SQL Expression Fields.
- Create a group using the SQL Expression Fields.
- Insert a numeric database field in the Details section of the report.
- Insert a summary "Sum" for the database field inserted in the details section
- Suppress or Hide the Details section.
- Create a Record Selection using a database fields that is not in the report design yet.
- Select the Report Options: Perform Grouping on Server.
- When refreshing the report the “Formula Workshop – Record Selection Formula” will open and it is written in the upper left corner:
'Error: Record Selection: {Database Field: <null>'
Cause
- The issue has been identified and logged under Problem Report ID ADAPT01367773
Resolution
- This issue is resolved in the following product update:
- Crystal Reports 2008:
- Service Pack 4, and above
- Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010
- Service Pack 2
