Symptom

Environment

Reproducing the Issue

  1. In Crystal Reports, create a report off any data source that contains a database string fields with database values of more than 3,500 characters
  2. Insert a group on the report
  3. Insert the large string database fields in the details section, and add a maximum summary on it for the group
  4. Refresh the report.

Crystal Reports will terminate unexpectedly if there is data that contains more than 3,500 characters, and you have a large number of records. ( Like 30,000 records)

Cause

  • This is a known issue that has been track under ADAPT01597259

Resolution

  • The issue is resolved in the following product update of Crystal Reports 2008:
    • Fix Pack 4.2
  • The issue is planned to be resolved in the following product updates of Crystal Reports 2008:
    • Fix Pack 5.1
    • Service Pack 6
  • To workaround the issue, replace the Crystal Reports summary used on the memo field, by a manual running total
