1217325 - When opening a report based on a Business View with saved data in Crystal Reports, it shows no data

Symptom

  • No data.
  • When opening the report, the data is discarded and formulas are inaccessible.
  • When opening a report based on a Business View, with saved data, it does not show any data in Crystal Reports.

Environment

  • SAP Crystal Reports 2013
  • SAP Crystal Reports 2016
  • SAP Crystal Reports 2020

Reproducing the Issue

  1. In Crystal Reports, create a report based on a Business View.
  2. Save the report with data.
  3. Share the report file.
  4. On a different computer, open the report with saved data in Crystal Reports.
  5. Notice the data is discarded.

Cause

  • When opening a report based on a Business View, the server verifies the user's permissions on the Business View.
  • The saved data is discarded because the user does not have permissions to access the Business View, or the Business View does not exist.

Resolution

  • To share a report based on a Business View with saved data, remove the security on the Business View:

    1. On the File menu, click Report Options, and ensure that the Save Data with Report check box is selected.
    2. On the File menu click Save As. The Save As dialog box appears.
    3. Select the Disconnect View Security check box.
    4. Click Save.

  • After the report is saved following the above steps, users can now view the report with saved data.
  • Note: This does not apply to the Crystal Reports Viewer, because Crystal Reports Viewer does not support viewing reports based on Business Views.
