Symptom

  • Error: "An error has occurred in the script of this page."
  • When starting Crystal Reports, it displays a script error message like:
      
    "An error has occurred in the script of this page.
      Line: 10371
      Char: 9
      Error: Object doesn't support this property or method.
      Code: 0
      URL: http://go.sap.com/etc/designs/sapdx/clientlib-all.js
           
      Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?"

Environment

  • Crystal Reports XI R2
  • SAP Crystal Reports 2008
  • SAP Crystal Reports 2011
  • SAP Crystal Reports 2013
  • SAP Crystal Reports 2016

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Open Crystal Reports.
         
  2. After some time, it will display an error message like:
      
    "An error has occurred in the script of this page.
      Line: 1
      Char: 5886
      Error: Expected ","
      Code: 0
      URL: http://drh.img.digitalriver.com/DRHM/Storefront/Site/bobjects/cm/multimedia/js/tracking/omniture/mbox.js
           
      Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?"

Cause

  • When opening Crystal Reports, it display a Start Page that displays dynamic information using Internet Explorer.
      
  • The script errors occurs when the server where Crystal Reports Start Page exist is experiencing an issue, or due to Internet Explorer.

Resolution

  • The Start Page Server is up and running, and there is no known issue. This SAP Knowledge Base Article is updated if there is an issue related to the Start Page server.
                   
  • For Crystal Reports XI R2, 2008, 2011, 2013:
       
    • Those products are no longer supported, and to resolve the error, disable the Start Page Online Resources by following the steps found in the SAP Knowledge Base Article 2857343
       
                                                  
  • For Crystal Reports 2016, and 2020:
        
    • Clear the MS Internet Explorer Cache, and restart Crystal Reports.
              
      1. In Internet Explorer, select Tools (via the Gear Icon) -> Internet Options 
          
      2. In the "Internet Options" window, under the tab "General", click on the "Delete" button in "Browsing history" 
          
      3. In the "Delete Browsing History" window:
        • Uncheck Preserve Favorites website data 
        • Check Temporary Internet Files and website files
        • Check Cookies and website data

      1. Click "Delete"
               
      2. Start Crystal Reports.
               
               
    • If you are still experiencing a similar error message with the Crystal Reports Start Page after clearing the cache, and there is no update in this document about it, then:

      • Contact SAP Product Support to report the issue.
      • Also, you can workaround the issue by disabling the Start Page Online Resource by following the steps found in the SAP Knowledge Base Article 2857343

    • 2021/03/10 - There was an issue with the Start Page, which was resolved on 2021/03/17
    • 2020/11/12 - There was an issue with the Start Page, which was resolved on 2020/12/16
    • 2020/11/05 - There was an issue with the Start Page, and was resolved on the same day.
    • 2019/09/20 - There was an issue with the Start Page Server, which was resolved on the same day in the evening of 2019/09/20
    • 2015/01/21 - There was an issue with the Start Page Server, which was resolved on 2015/01/23
    • 2014/11/19 - There was an issue with the Crystal Reports Start Page Server on 2014/11/19 for few hours, and was resolved on the same day.
    • 2014/10/15 - There was an issue with the Crystal Reports Start Page Server in 2014/10/15, which was resolved on 2014/11/03.
