There was a previous performance problem in the system (which presented as increased DB response times per Workload Monitor/transaction ST03) and the cause is suspected to be related to the latency (round trip time; RTT) of the network connecting the SAP NetWeaver AS ABAP servers to the Oracle database.
Ping and niping tests are not suitable as the problem is no longer occurring.
