2667962 - dbping works, but dbisql connection to database fails - SAP IQ

Symptom

Server is running , ps command shows IQ server process , but when trying to connect to it using dbisql it returns the following error

Could not connect to the database.
Specified database not found
SQLCODE=-83, ODBC 3 State="08001"
