2637639 - SUM SecurityException - Error in some of the login modules - LOGOUT.FAILED

Symptom

Upgrade or deployment in SUM tool fails by an error related to user credentials. The latest trouble ticket indicates that for more information about the exception see the log file INPUT-USER-CREDENTIALS_XX.LOG. In this log. The following error is logged:

[Info  ]: Dialog eliminator jeeAdminUserEliminator does not allow to omit dialog UserPasswords
[Info  ]: Validatable parameter J2EE/J2EEADMIN/PWD has been validated by validator RequiredFields.
[Info  ]: Validating password of JEE Engine User Administrator.
[Error ]: The following problem has occurred during step execution: java.lang.SecurityException: Internal server error. An error log with ID [...] is created. For more information contact your system administrator..

Capturing the scenario with Troubleshooting Wizard Traces or in the security_XX.X.log the following exceptions can be seen:

[EXCEPTION]
com.sap.engine.services.security.exceptions.BaseLoginException: Error in some of the login modules.
[...]
Caused by: java.lang.NullPointerException: while trying to invoke the method javax.security.auth.Subject.getPrivateCredentials(java.lang.Class) of an object loaded from local variable 'subject'

and:
