2591756 - Prevent SAP GUI 7.5 installation from removing / deleting Microsoft system files like mscomctl.ocx, mscomct2.ocx, richtx32.ocx etc..

Symptom

  • While installing SAP GUI 7.5, the installer deletes/removes Microsoft system files like mscomctl.ocx, mscomct2.ocx, richtx32.ocx etc.. from the path c:\windows\system32\ (or c:\windows\SysWow64\ for 64-bit OS) on Windows system
  • For e.g. in the NwSapSetup_*.log you will see below:

NwSapsAtlC 1 Attempting file uninstallation: C:\Windows\system32\mscomctl.ocx

NwSapsAtlC 1 File type: InProc COM server file

NwSapsAtlC 1 Attempting out of process self unregistration (sapregsv.exe)

NwSapFeiUt 1 Executing <C:\Users\<userid>\AppData\Local\Temp\SapC880.tmp\Setup\sapregsv.exe C:\Windows\system32\mscomctl.ocx /u /s /w>

NwSapFeiUt 1 Waiting for 31000 milli-seconds...

NwSapFeiUt 1 Process <C:\Users\<userid>\AppData\Local\Temp\SapC880.tmp\Setup\sapregsv.exe C:\Windows\system32\mscomctl.ocx /u /s /w> has finished.

NwSapFeiUt 1 Process <C:\Users\<userid>\AppData\Local\Temp\SapC880.tmp\Setup\sapregsv.exe C:\Windows\system32\mscomctl.ocx /u /s /w> has the return code 0

NwSapsAtlC 1 COM server out of process self unregistration succeeded

NwSapsAtlC 1 SharedDllCounter for C:\Windows\System32\mscomctl.ocx has been erased

NwSapsAtlC 1 File C:\Windows\System32\mscomctl.ocx has been uninstalled successfully

  • Other applications relying on mscomctl.ocx will stop working
  • Similarly, You can see above logs for other Microsoft system files like mscomct2.ocx, richtx32.ocx etc.. too.
