2573269 - A large delete triggered Errors 1105 and 3475 - SAP ASE

Symptom

  • A large delete was executed and entirely consumed the transaction log freespace
  • Multiple threshold procedures fired but were unable to truncate the log for the open xact
  • An 1105 was raised indicating the logsegment freespace was exhausted
  • ASE attempted an automatic in-place fix on the Global Allocation MAP (GAM) but it did not remedy the problem
  • Error 3475 was logged
  • An attempt to manually extend the logsegment failed
  • An attempt to forcibly kill the tran dump also failed because it held a semaphore on the transaction log
  • A later restart led to the same errors during recovery.

Error: 1105, Severity: 17, State: 4
Can't allocate space for object 'syslogs' in database 'test1' because 'logsegment' segment is full/has no free extents. If you ran out of space in syslogs, dump the transaction log. Otherwise, use ALTER DATABASE to increase the size of the segment.
