2541358 - Starting WebDynpro/WebGUI application from Fiori Launchpad fails in cross-system scenario

Symptom

Starting a WebDynpro/WebGUI application from Fiori Launchpad fails and gives one of the following results:

  • The web page at <destination URL> might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.
    OR
  • Content was blocked because it was not signed by a valid security certificate.

The first error is usually seen in Google Chrome, whereas the second one in Internet Explorer. Although they seem to differ, the underlying problem is usually the same.

In either case if the destination URL is directly called in a new tab, the application starts correctly. It's worth to note that calling the destination directly means it's no longer embedded into Fiori Launchpad, but runs standalone, therefore certain security measures may be ignored and bypassed.
