2476634 - Custom applications not working after upgrade

Symptom

After performing a upgrade to a different release, some or all custom applications may not work. They can also show other behaviours, like performance problems or UI errors.

This situation is sometimes present when upgrading from a product version to another (e.g., moving from NW 7.0 to NW 7.3), but it can also occur when updating an SP on the same version of the product (e.g., updating the NW 7.3 SP0 to NW 7.3 SP5).
