2434325 - GetTraceFile method returns "Cannot open file"

Symptom

During an upgrade (system upgrade or SP level upgrade), SUM stops with an error message similar to the below:

The following error has occurred during the execution of the current step:
Error getting sapstartsrv pid for instance $$ on host <server name>. Sapcontrol client could not perform action get trace file on instance $$. Return code condition success evaluated to false for process sapcontrol for action get trace file.

  • $$ is the instance number

The SUM log files indicate that SUM executed the following command:

sapcontrol -nr $$ -host <server name> -user <SIDadm> <password> -prot NI_HTTP -function GetTraceFile

The command's output is:

<date> <time>
GetTraceFile
FAIL: Cannot open file

The same error occurs if the command is executed manually.
