Symptom

  • Running REORG REBUILD or UPDATE STATISICS
  • Connection gets terminated
  • ASE errorlog reports a signal 11 in mem__pageallocate_this_engine or mem_pageallocate
  • ASE can crash as a result when spid is holding spinlock erprocelc_spin
  • Errorlog entries can include the following :

Current process (...) infected with signal 11 (SIGSEGV)
Address (mem_pageallocate+0xd5) or (mem__pageallocate_this_engine+0x100)

  • The stack including some or all of the following :

mem__pageallocate_this_engine
mem_pageallocate
mem_getpages
memalloc
lmlink
startsort
ups_build_stat_noindex
update_statistics

  • ASE crashed if these lines are part of the stacktrace :

Spinlocks held by kpid 123456
Spinlock eresourcep->erprocelc_spin at address ... owned by 123456
