2064179 - One of the two SAP AS servers cannot start on a single host due to ICM error

Symptom

Two servers were installed on one host (can be AS ABAP and/or AS JAVA instances), thus one host have two System IDs: SIDs. One server starts fine, but the second server fails to start and drops an ICM error. The logs show the following errors:

 

dev_jstart log extract:
*** ERROR => Emergency shutdown: 1 node failed to start. [sfxxinst.hpp 1061]
*** ERROR => Node icm: failed with exit code 0 [sfxxinst.hpp 1072]

 

dev_icm log extract:
*** ERROR => FATAL: Protocol P4 not available: check value of parameter system/type [p4_plg.c     635]
*** ERROR => IcmAddServiceInfo: PlugInInit failed (rc=-1 [icxxserv.c   2793]
*** ERROR => IcmAddService: IcmAddServiceInfo failed (rc=-1) [icxxserv.c   719]
*** ERROR => FATAL: Protocol IIOP not available: Multiplexing thread not initialized [iiop_plg.c   716]

...
*** ERROR => FATAL: Protocol Telnet not available: Multiplexing thread not initialized

 

jvm_datcol.out log extract:
com.sap.engine.datcol.Task error
SEVERE: while trying to get the length of an array loaded from local variable 'arr$'
java.lang.NullPointerException: while trying to get the length of an array loaded from local variable 'arr$'
