Symptom

A user-defined role (or custom role) is a collection of permissions. Benefit of user-defined role are :

  1. User-defined roles are server-wide
  2. Single user can have multiple user-defined roles.
  3. User-defined roles can be dynamically turned off and on by the user
  4. Supporting more flexibility than with groups.
  5. User-defined role can also include other user-defined roles, allowing for hierarchical access.
  6. Access can be defined for a specific application.

In order for a user-defined role to have an effect, perform the following tasks:

  1. Create user-defined role
  2. Assign permissions to user-defined role
  3. Assign user-defined role to logins
  4. Enable user-defined role
