Symptom

  • ASE reports following errors when running REORG REBUILD command:

Sat Mar 22 11:52:21 2014: (CODE) reorg rebuild dbo.mytable
Unhandled ERROR: 11051 / S1000 - Server message number=11932 severity=10 state=1 line=1 server=SYBASE text=Beginning REORG REBUILD of table 'mytable'.
Server message number=11051 severity=16 state=1 line=1 server=SYBASE text=ALTER
TABLE 'dbo.mytable' failed. Table is currently being used by one or more other tasks.
Statement=reorg rebuild dbo.mytable

Sat Mar 22 11:52:21 2014: (CODE) sp_recompile 'dbo.mytable'
Unhandled ERROR: 17460 / S1000 - Server message number=17460 severity=16 state=1 line=70 server=SYBASE procedure=sp_recompile text=Object must be in the current database. Statement=exec sp_recompile 'dbo.mytable'

  • Other session concurrently running SELECT against the same table at 'read uncommitted' isolation level
  • Following above, any process executing sp_recompile against same table will erroneously fail with ASE error 17460
  • Other commands such as sp_help, executed against same table, may fail with ASE error 17461 instead
