1956973 - Error while executing Task with input file ReadProfiles.xml and task READ_DB_DRIVER_LOCATION

Symptom

This error is encountered when performing a Support Package (SP) update on an SAP system using the Software Update Manager (SUM) tool.

Below is a sample error message seen in the TroubleTicket_xx.txt log file:

An error has occurred during the execution of the Determine JDBC driver location step with action configure. Service com.sap.sdt.j2ee.services.servicesimpl.EngineProfileService failed with the following message:
Error while executing Task with input file ReadProfiles.xml and task READ_DB_DRIVER_LOCATION.
You can find more information in the files E:\usr\sap\HID\SUM\sdt\log\SUM\DETERMINE-JDBC-DRIVER_04.LOG and ProcessOverview.html.

Below is a sample error message seen in the DETERMINE-JDBC-DRIVER_xx.LOG log file:

Dec 11, 2013 11:47:27 AM [Error ]: The following problem has occurred during step execution: com.sap.sdt.util.diag.DiagException: Error while executing Task with input file ReadProfiles.xml and task READ_DB_DRIVER_LOCATION.
Could not determine profile parameters.
Error while retrieving value j2ee/dbdriver, with retriever com.sap.sdt.tools.sysinfo.ProfileDataRetriever.
Could not extract value with key j2ee/dbdriver, from file //MYHOSTNAME/sapmnt/HID/SYS/profile/HID_J00_MYHOSTNAME. A possible reason could be that the path to the directory containing the sappfpar executable is not included in the PATH environment variable. Process sappfpar completed with error code -1073741515.

Please note that the highlighted sappfpar command (shown in the above log) is just an example and will be different for your system.
When you manually execute the sappfpar command at the operating system level, you encounter the following error message:

The program can't start becasue MSVCR100.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.
