Symptom

  • ASE starts in 'support-graced' mode or
  • ASE fails to start
  • After ASE has been patched / upgraded.
  • The errorlog reports messages including:

SySAM: Checked out support-graced license for 2 ASE_CORE (2016.12110/permanent/ABCD 1234 EFGH 4567).
SySAM: Failed to obtain license(s) for ASE_CORE feature from license file(s) or server(s).
..
SySAM: License file does not support this version. ASE requires a license version of 2017.02230 or greater but only licenses for previous releases are available. If you are entitled to use this version of ASE then check for updates at the Sybase Product Download Center and regenerate and deploy your license updates.
SySAM: License feature name: ASE_CORE
SySAM: Application version > License version: 2017.02230 > 2016.12110

  • Running sp_lmconfig command returns messages including:

ASE_CORE      2016.12110 2       support graced Permanent            <servername>
