A client system is connecting to an SAP NetWeaver ABAP based system, calling an RFC-enabled ABAP function (ABAP functions can be viewed at the transaction SE37).
The connection settings, at the client system, point to a Standalone Gateway that is part of the ABAP system.
When the function is called, the client system receives the error "Gateway not connected to local R/3":
LOCATION SAP-Gateway on host <standalone gateway host> / <gateway service>
ERROR Gateway not connected to local R/3
TIME <time stamp>
MODULE /bas/<kernel release>/src/krn/si/gw/gwr3cpic.c
