3117833 - Screen reader not announcing "search results for" in job candidate search queries, and adding unnecessary words

  • When a candidate uses multiple words in a keyword search, the screen reader would automatically add the location as well as announce the plus symbol, but fail to include the words "search results for"
  • For example: "product plus manager plus san plus ramon" instead of "search results for product manager"

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Navigate to a job search and enter 'product manager' in search by keyword and click search
  2. Search page opens
  3. Inspect the search page and search for elements 'searchResultsHeader' and 'securitySearchQuery'
    • This indicates what the screen reader would read aloud

  • searchResultsHeader element should have text like 'search results for'
  • securitySearchQuery element should have text 'product manager'
  • if the search query is empty, then header should also be empty
  • both these elements should be under a h1 element which is visually hidden but readable for screen readers

  • The searchResultsHeader is always empty and securitySearchQuery is incorrect
