3076767 - Performance Issues, Locks and Time Out During Material Valuation Migration

Symptom

You are migrating a larger volume of Material Valuation Data records using the Migration Tool.

The process is time-consuming. Especially during step Import Simulation latencies and even time-outs can be observed (Data Import in Progress).

Environment

SAP Business ByDesign All Versions

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to Business Configuration work center.
  2. Select Implementation Project view.
  3. Select Open Activity List.
  4. Go to Integrate and Extend.
  5. Select Migration of Material Valuation Data.
  6. Select Migrate material valuation data using the migration tool.
  7. Execute the migration.

Cause

The volume of data that can be reasonably processed during the migration-process is limited as to migration-sessions run in parallel and volume in each file.

This can be exacerbated by combinations of Materials and Business Residence in involved migration-files.

Resolution

The following recommendations should be followed to mitigate experienced problems.

Materials and Business Residence:

Materials related to several Business Residences should be contained in 1 file and should be sorted accordingly in continuous order.

For example:

2 Materials ABC, DEF (ABC, DEF represent two Material IDs)
5 Business Residences A1, B1, .., E1 (A1 ,B1, E1 represent different Business Residence IDs)

The Financial Data - General and Financial Data- Details data entry tabs should hence be structured as:

ABC A1
ABC B1
ABC C1
ABC D1
ABC E1
DEF A1
DEF B1
DEF C1
DEF D1
DEF E1

The number of entries in tab Financial Data - General should not exceed 20,000 records.

Volume and Parallel Sessions:

In case larger date volumes are to be migrated it has to be observed that only a maximum of 3 sessions running in parallel is technically supported.
Included migration files should not exceed more than 20,000 records under tab General (see above).
Having more concurrent migration-sessions can result in process- and user-locks.
The same material should not be maintained in parallelly processed files as this leads to contractions as to the execution status of concerned files.
