You have migrated a fixed asset with depreciation in current year and depreciation method 0000 - No Automatic Depreciation. However, after executing a depreciation run, the run is reversing the migrated depreciation amount.
SAP Business ByDesign.
Reproducing the Issue
- Go to Fixed Assets work center.
- Go to Depreciation run view.
- Open the relevant depreciation run.
- Go to Processed Successfully tab.
You see that the run has reversed the depreciation from the migrated asset, with depreciation method 0000. Since there were no previous automatic postings, you are not expecting the posted depreciation to be reversed.
Even though the depreciation method upon migration is 0000 - No Automatic Depreciation, the depreciation amount has been migrated with movement category e.g. "06 Periodic Depreciation, Revaluation and Interests" and line item type "01205 Periodically Posted Regular Depreciation", which the system understands as automatic depreciation. Hence, with depreciation method 0000 being used, the run reverses the automatic depreciation.
This would be the expected behavior. If the amount is related to manual depreciation, a more suitable movement category (e.g. 46 - Manual Depreciation) should have been used instead.
You can reverse the journal entries for this asset and then re-migrate with the proper values and movement categories. Alternatively, you can post the depreciation reversal via depreciation run and then try creating the manual postings to adjust the amounts accordingly.
You shall discuss this further from your end, with the relevant stakeholders, to explore additional workarounds, agree on the best approach and test the scenario thoroughly again before migrating content into production.
