Sequence of events:

  1. ASE had one engine local cache (ELC) memory corruption, there may or may not exist ELC error in errorlog before stack trace. Sample ELC validation messages:

ELC_VALIDATION_ERROR: Page address not aligned to memory page size. memptr = 0x2aac72412017, pelc = 0x2aaaae338078, chunksize = 1, engine id = 1, validate_flag = 1
ELC_VALIDATION_CORRECTION: Backup page pointer 0x2aac72412000 was used. pelc = 0x2aaaae338078

   2. ASE crashed with a timeslice stack trace holding engine local cache spinlock eresourcep->erprocelc_spin.

  • timeslice -501, current process infected at 0x224d007 (pausenonatomic+0x9)    --  on linux amd64bit platform for 'cpu grace time'= default (500)
  • Routine VEH_Optimize() or sort() on timeslice stack trace
