SAP Knowledge Base Article - Public

2994463 - Mapping option Update dimension with new values doesn't work for public dimension when trying to import data into existing model in SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC)

Symptom

  • Mapping option Update dimension with new values doesn't work for public dimension when trying to import data into existing model in SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC)
  • In this case, error message "Full data validation cannot be performed before fixing data quality issues for <source column>" appears when trying to Validate Data

Environment

  • SAP Analytics Cloud (Enterprise) 2020.21.8

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Log on to SAC tenant and then create a blank model.
  2. Add a Generic dimension with option Make this a Public dimensions selected.
=> This will be one Public Dimension and can be found in Browser > Dimensions.
=> It only have one default member - Unassigned.
  3. Add another Generic dimensions without option Make this a Public dimensions selected.
=> This will be one private dimension and only available in this model.
=> It also have only one default member - Unassigned.
  4. Add at least one Account dimensions and then save the model.
  5. Switch to Data Management and then import data from either File or Data source into this model.
  6. After data is loaded, click the Draft Datasource to start data preparation.
  7. Map the two generic dimensions (both Public and Private) to one Source Column having non-empty values.
    • While mapping option Update dimensions with new values is NOT selected
=> Both Public dimensions and Private dimension have Data Quality issue because of Not Matched, which is expected behavior.
    • While mapping option Update dimension with new values is selected
=> The private dimension won't have Data Quality issue as all values will be Accepted and then added into the dimension as new member, which is expected behavior for the option.
=> However, the public dimension still has Data Quality issue and those values are still Rejected because of Not Matched. So the option doesn't work for public dimension.
=> In this case, if trying to Validate Data, error message "Full data validation cannot be performed before fixing data quality issues for <source column>" appears.
