2988036 - System Call not responding messages in the ASE errorlog

Symptom

  • In the ASE errorlog you see messages of the form:

00:0001:00000:00000:2020/11/03 09:55:39.87 kernel  Spid 11 has exceeded its timeout value while issuing a write for virtual device 24 ('<ASE device name>'). A system call has not responded for <X> seconds, and Adaptive Server will be impacted until it returns. Contact your operating system vendor for assistance.

  • In the operating system logs you see messages like these:

Nov  3 10:05:42 <hostname> kernel: XFS: dataserver(<PID>) possible memory allocation deadlock size <Y> in kmem_realloc (mode:0x250)
