2985092 - Error 'Business Feature 'Multiple Channels' exempts sheet 'Collaboration'' In Migration of Customers

Symptom

You are trying to update 'Document Output Channels' in Migration of Customers, using Migration Mode Enhance already existing records, however, the following error messages show up in the Simulate Import step:

Business Feature 'Multiple Channels' exempts sheet 'Collaboration'

Business Feature 'Multiple Channels' is in scope

Environment

SAP Business ByDesign

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to the Business Configuration Work Center.
  2. Go to the Overview view.
  3. Select Activities in the dropdown list and search for Migration of Customers.
  4. Open it and select the option Migrate customers using the migration tool (it will open a new browser tab, for Data Migration tool).
  5. Select the desired file and click Execute Migration > Execute Migration Step-by-Step.
  6. Try to do step 3. Simulate Import.
  7. You will see two error messages: 'Business Feature 'Multiple Channels' exempts sheet 'Collaboration'' and 'Business Feature 'Multiple Channels' is in scope'.

Cause

Document Output Channel requires data to be also filled in the Collaboration sheet of the Migration of Customers template file. These sheets are interlinked in their functionality, therefore, it cannot be possible to use one without the other.

The error message is thrown because the scoping question "Do you sell products and services using multiple distribution channels?" is scoped in Business Configuration. In this case, as the 'Multiple Channels' Business Configuration feature is scoped, the 'Collaboration' sheet becomes unusable, as this sheet only allows upload of one collaboration at a time. Technical constraints made it difficult to hide this tab in Data Migration tool, so instead, you receive the error message 'Business Feature 'Multiple Channels' exempts sheet 'Collaboration''. In other words, you have may not fill it ("Multi-Channel" is active in the system).

For example, using an Account ABC (where ABC is the Account ID that you are using in Migration of Customers), if you get the error message 'Cannot create duplicate entries in Collaboration view' when the 'Collaboration' sheet is not filled, this happens when Collaboration data already exists for this account. Also, when you get the error message 'Business Feature 'Multiple Channels' exempts sheet 'Collaboration'', it is because the above scoping question is scoped, hence, for this account ABC, it falls away for both these scenarios and therefore cannot be enhanced.

Resolution

The enhancement mode of 'Migration of Customers' tool is a delta upload tool only on a large scale, for example, when you upload contacts, the delta is all contacts and no contacts should already exist. This applies likewise to Collaboration data.

Furthermore, updates of existing records are not possible through Data Migration tool or Mass Data Maintenance in this scenario. If you want to update existing data, then this can only be done through web service.
