2971265 - Error Msg 17590 on database sybmgmtdb because job scheduler failed during upgrade - SAP ASE

Symptom

  • Upgrade ASE from ASE 15.7 SPx to ASE 16.0 SPx PLx using setup.bin -i console
  • Job Scheduler is not activated

    select name from sysdatabases where name='sybmgmtdb'
    go

    name
    ------------------------------------------------------------
    (0 rows affected)
  • When using isql to access ASE, error msg17590 shows up
    isql -U<username> -S<ASE name> -P<passworrd>
    sp_helpdb sybmgmtdb

    go

Msg 17590, Level 16, State 1:
Server 'ASE', Procedure 'sp_helpdb', Line 119:
The specified database does not exist.
(return status = 1)

  • ASE errorlog shows:

    Error: 911, Severity: 11, State: 2
    Attempt to locate entry in sysdatabases for database 'sybmgmtdb' by name failed - no entry found under that name. Make sure that name is entered properly.
    Job Scheduler: IS_ISQL_EXT failed [set nocount on use sybmgmtdb print ':s: %1!', 'sybmgmtdb'].
    Job Scheduler failed to open database 'sybmgmtdb'.
    Job Scheduler found incorrect or damaged database 'sybmgmtdb'.
  • During upgrade:
    Updating SAP Adaptive Server Enterprise 'myserver'...
    Start SAP Adaptive Server Enterprise ...
    The sybmgmtdb database size is too small: alter database to add at least 76 MB
    of data space.
    SAP Adaptive Server Enterprise has been started.
    Updating SAP Adaptive Server Enterprise failed.
