2960655 - Final Shutdown of RFC Connections From Customer Systems to SAP: Are My Systems Still Calling SAP Using RFC?


As communicated earlier (e.g. through KBA 2923799 "Final Shutdown of RFC Connections From Customer Systems to SAP"), the RFC channel for system communication between customer and SAP backbone will be permanently shut down as of 30th November, 2020.

Despite this, some functions on some customer systems are still communicating with the SAP support backbone using the RFC channel, notably, for

  • EarlyWatch Alert (EWA),
  • Service Content Update (SCU),
  • the RTCCTOOL (for service preparation), or
  • Notes Download through SNote.

So far, SAP has largely focused on alerting customers to enable their systems to call SAP's new HTTPS-based support backbone infrastructure. Now SAP is also asking customers to actively shut down remaining RFC communications to SAP as a best practice measure to reduce load on customer systems caused by superfluous RFC communication attempts.



SAP Solution Manager 7.1 and 7.2 (on-premise), ABAP systems (that are not SAP Solution Manager systems) directly connected to SAP, Support Technology Cloud Solutions (such as EarlyWatch Alert Workspace)
