2727683 - Unable to retrieve data from the datasource error appears in SAP Analytics Cloud story based on live data connection


  • {"code":null,"message":"Internal Server Error","details":null} message arises in SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC) while trying to examine data in a story on top of Live BW model.
    • Widgets in SAC show: "Unable to retrieve data from the datasource".
  • Complex BW query is being executed with large amount of data, but no dump or HTTP(S) error seen on NW backend.
  • Errors coming in Chrome Developer Tool:
    • GetResponse requests return with status code: "500 Internal Server Error"
    • and with error message "500 Connection Timed Out"

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Add the Live Data model to a story.
  2. Create a chart and observe the error.


  • Due to refreshing large amount of data (depending on the volume, capacity of server...), the ICM processing (PROCTIMEOUT) timeout setting is set too low.The processing timeout specifies the timeout between sending an HTTP request and receiving an HTTP response.
  • The ICM processing timeout setting (PROCTIMEOUT) defines the processing timeout for communicating with the back end (work process) and needs to be kept alive during this period of time for processing. For more information refer to: Configuration of the Web Dispatcher Server Port
