2661997 - Limitation of User/Item ID Character is different on the UI and on the User/Item Connector

Symptom

The LMS interface (UI) only accepts 30 characters for User and Item IDs, but User and Item Connectors accept up to 90 bytes.

Environment

SAP SuccessFactors Learning

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Add a user (or item) via the UI. Try to enter more than 30 characters, and the UI won't let you.
  2. Add a user (or item) via a Connector. Notice that it can take more than 30 characters.

Cause

According to the Engineering Team, this is expected behavior.

Resolution

As per the Engineering Team, the User and Item IDs are meant to be only 30 characters long and that is why the UI restricts it this way. Connectors accept up to 90 characters due to technical aspects, and is not meant to be used to insert beyond 30 characters. One of such aspects is the fact that some characters in other languages take more than 1 byte, hence it is extended to 90 bytes for connectors.
