This article aims to give a brief summary on Competencies, and how to create them, via the Job Profile Builder UI and via Import.

Competency is an ability for an individual to perform a job that includes set of defined behaviors. Competencies provide structure guidelines that enable identification, evaluation, and development of behaviors for individual employees. Additional data on Different Job Profile Objects can be found in our JPB Admin Guide.


Manage Job Profile Competency Data via User Interface

  1. Go to Admin Center > Manage Job Profile Content;
  2. Select "Competency" > Click "Create Competency";
  3. Create a Competency Record;
  4. Provide a Competency Name, Competency Library and Category:



  • User can add translation of the Competency, Library and Category by clicking the Globe Icon beside the Text Box.
  • Library and Category Name (Initial Record) must be always be created manually along with the Competency.
  • Library and Category Name does not have a dropdown menu when creating a Competency by default, however when a user types-in a specific keyword a list of similar Library Name will be shown as a list.
  1. Click "Create Competency":


Manage Job Profile Competency Data via Import File

  1. Download “Competency” Template;
  2. Go to Admin Center > Manage Job Profile Content Import and Export > Select “Competency” File Template:



NOTE: A confirmation box will appear to ask if the user want to download the template along with the data. User may select “No” if they only want the template file and “Yes” if otherwise.

  1. Open the generated Competency CSV File to provide all Competency Data that needs to be added in the system:

name.<!Language!>: Translated Competency Name for a specific Local Language

libName.defaultValue: Default Library Name

libName.<!Language!>: Translated Competency Library Name for specific Local Language

category.defaultValue: Default Competency Category Name

category.<!Language!>: Translated Competency Category Name for specific Local Language

description.defaultValue: Default Description of the Competency

description.<!Language!>: Translated Description of the Competency for specific Local Language

Core: True or False

Status: (A) - Active or (I) - Inactive

externalCode: Null

submodule: Null

Collection: True or False


  1. Import the CSV File;
  2. Go to Admin Center > Manage Job Profile Content Import/Export > Select Type: “Competency” > Add Competency CSV File > Select a File Encoding Type;
  3. Click “Import”;

NOTE: User may “Validate” the records first to identify if the import will be successful or if there are some issues with the file/records.

  1. Validate the Import;
  2. Go to Admin Center > Manage Job Profile Content > Competency:
