2554716 - Error during upgrade in step COMMON-DETECT-SYSTEM. Error: java.lang.NullPointerException: while trying to get the length of a null array loaded from local variable 'subDirs'.

Symptom

  • While Performing an upgrade using the Software Update Manager (SUM) the upgrade stops in phase COMMON-DETECT-SYSTEM 
  • The error message can be found in the TroubleTicket.log that are similar to:
    An error occurred during the execution of Common System Detect of action execute.
    Service com.sap.sdt.j2ee.services.servicesimpl.DetectUseCaseService failed with the following message:
    msg.sysdetection.0016
    For more information, see the log file .\SUM\sdt\log\SUM\COMMON-DETECT-SYSTEM_05.LOG.
    Use the provided information to troubleshoot the problem. There might be a SAP note providing a solution to this problem. Search the SAP notes using the following search terms:
    DETECT,execute,common-detect-system,common-detect-system,com.sap.sdt.j2ee.services.servicesimpl.DetectUseCaseService,class com.sap.sdt.util.diag.DiagException
  • An error can be found in COMMON-DETECT-SYSTEM.LOG that is similar to:
