Symptom

When launching your catalog from SAP SRM, you get a portal error on screen:

Portal runtime error

An exception occurred while processing your request. Send the exception ID to your portal administrator.

Exception ID 02:XX_XX/XX/XX_XXXX_XXXXXXXXX

See log file for details about this exception

When checking the default trace logs, you will find this error:

Caused by: com.sapportals.portal.prt.runtime.PortalRuntimeException: Exception in SAP Application Integrator occured: Unknown system alias.
System Alias:  'SAP_MDM',
User:          'PURCHASER',
Reason:        System Alias is not defined or permission denied for this user
