2447629 - Signal 11 in dol_update / decompress_column_by_coloff or error 644 / 2601 on sysdatabases on ALTER DATABASE - SAP ASE

Symptom

  • Run 'alter database' command changing options 'set compression' and 'lob_compression' in a single command:

 alter database my_db set compression = page, lob_compression = 101

  • The following "infected with signal 11" errors with a stack trace are reported in the ASE errorlog:
     
    • Current process (0x4bb30280) infected with signal 11 (SIGSEGV)
      Address 0x0x0000000000aba68d (dol_update+0x18bd), siginfo (code, address) = (1, 0x0x0000000000000098)
       
      A stack trace includes functions: 

dol_update
update
update_row
altdb__changeoption
alterdb

    • Current process (0x3c51028e) infected with signal 11 (SIGSEGV)
      Address 0x0x0000000000a801ad (decompress_column_by_coloff+0x7f), siginfo (code, address) = (1, 0x(nil))
       
      A stack trace includes functions: 

decompress_column_by_coloff
set_do_keys
dol_ncdelete
dol_update
dol_def_update
dodeferred

  • Error 644 returned to a client and shown in the ASE errorlog:

Msg 644, Level 21, State 5:
Server 'ASE', Line 1:
Index row entry for data row id (x, y) is missing from index page 1234 of index id 2 of table 'sysdatabases' in database 'master'. Xactid is (456,1). Drop and re-create the index.


  • Error 2601 returned to a client: 

Message: 2601, State 6, Severity 14:
Server 'ASE', Line 1:
Attempt to insert duplicate key row in object 'sysdatabases' with unique index 'ncsysdatabases'.
