2369975 - Play Content in Full Screen - [LMS]

There are times when we want the courses in the LMS to appear in Full Screen and this KBA talks about that.

SuccessFactors LMS

SCORM or AICC courses:
The resolution or the screen size with which the content plays in the LMS is not controlled by LMS and if the content appears in a certain way in the browser window, that is how it would be displayed to the users as well and there aren't any setting in the LMS to render that it full screen or change the way how it displays the courses as that resolution/size/aspect is coded in the course and LMS just renders it the way the course is created with.

Fix : The content has to be designed in such a way that it is can mend itself to the resolution of the screen where the content is played because at the end of the the day, the course is a HTML content and a HTML page can be created in such a way that it gets modified itself as per the resolution of the screen(Responsive HTML). Customers should get in touch with the content developers and request them to create the content in a responsive manner to get this sorted for all type of devices.

Video Files(like mp4):
Videos are rendered based on the resolution and the way they are played depends on the tool that renders it.

For example, consider there is a 240p video and it would be 426×240 or 320×240 or 352×240 in terms of resolution and this depends on the aspect ratio as well. If you open them in specifically designed tools like Video Players(like VLC) it would play them in the native/default resolution first and then you can force the video to be played in full screen mode by expanding it. Video Players are specifically designed/coded to enable that feature but a browser's main function is to render HTML format and other formats are added as extra features that ranges from basic to intermediate in terms of functionality(like playing the video or audio files) as that is not the main work of a browser but an additional functionality that we can enjoy with the browser and we cannot expect more from the browser on this.

Fix : If you want the videos to play in a "near to full screen" mode, then the resolution of the video has to be increased and the downside of that is, increased file size means more bandwidth required and time taken to render the video would increase when used by the users. You could also make use of the full screen option provided by the browser(check the bottom right corner of the image for the full screen option in chrome browser,

Please note that this full screen option is provided by the browser and not the LMS and it might vary from browser to browser.
