2285427 - How to enable password encryption for Sybase ASE database connectivity in Crystal Reports?


  • How to enable password encryption for Sybase ASE in Crystal Reports when using ODBC connection or Sybase Open Client Connection type?


  • SAP Crystal Reports 2011/2013/2016
  • Sybase ASE Database 15.X
  • Windows Operating system


Using ODBC Driver

  • Start ODBC Data Source Administrator  32 bit (C:\Windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe)
  • Create / Edit an ODBC connection using Sybase ASE driver
  • Goto Connections tab
  • Select the  Encrypt Password option


Using Sybase Open Client

  • Sybase Open Client the database driver uses %SYBASE%\%SYBASE_OCS%\ini\ocs.cfg file as a configuration file for the connection
  • Goto the following directory: %SYBASE%\%SYBASE_OCS%\ini
  • Edit the ocs.cfg file and goto the  [DEFAULT] section



Notes for Sybase Open Client only:

  • if the ocs.cfg file does not exist in the %SYBASE%\%SYBASE_OCS%\ini directory, you may create the ocs.cfg file from the sample.cfg file by copying
  • if the [DEFAULT] section not exists in ocs.cfg you may add this section to the end of the file
