2285230 - Error: "HTTP Status 500 - javax.servlet.ServletException" after logging into CMC

Symptom

  • After logging to Central Manager Console, the System Configuration Wizard runs. The Welcome page is displayed for a split second and right after you get HTTP Status 500 error:

    HTTP Status 500 - javax.servlet.ServletException: # { setupWizardBean.initializePlugins }: javax.faces.el.EvaluationException: java.lang.NullPointerException: while trying to invoke the method com.businessobjects.sdk.plugin.desktop.service.IService.getServiceHosts() of a null object returned from com.sap.sw.capacity.internal.CapacityMemoryRequirementChecker.getCMSService()

  • The pop-up window cannot be closed.
  • There is no way to navigate to CMC Home or other CMC pages.
  • Refreshing the browser page doesn't make the window disapear. The only way to close it is by closing the browser window and opening a new CMC window. However, the same error is displayed right away.
  • Issue happens in Internet Explorer, Chrome and FireFox.
