2222064 - the str_replace function returns longer output than in previous versions - SAP ASE

Symptom

  • In ASE 15.7 SP130 and above, the str_replace function produces much wider output than in previous versions.

  • This behavior can be seen in a view, but it is not limited to views:

1> sp_help mytest_view
2> go

Name                 Owner  Object_type  Object_status    Create_date
 ------------------- -------- -------------  ----------------- -------------------
 mytest_view         dbo          view         -- none --         Sep 24 2015  8:36AM

 Column_name         Type       Length Prec  Scale   Nulls   Not_compressed  Default_name    Rule_name  Access_Rule_name   Computed_Column_object   Identity
 --------------------     --------   ------- -----  ------- ------- -------------------  ------------------ -------------- ---------------------- -----------------------------   ---------
 SOURCE_DATABASE varchar   1024   NULL  NULL     1           0                   NULL                NULL               NULL                      NULL                                 0
No defined keys for this object.

  • In previous versions, the varchar would be expected to be varchar(10), instead of varchar (1024).
