Cause

If the setting for alphanumeric and special characters number ranges is not maintained in the fine-tuning activity Number Range for Materials, it is not possible to use alpha numeric characters/special characters for Material ID.

Resolution

  1. Go to work center Business Configuration.
  2. Access the Overview work center view.
  3. Search and open fine-tuning activity Number Range for Materials.
  4. Enter the length of the Material ID in the field Total Length (including prefix).
  5. Fill the fields Start Number and End Number according to your requirements and make sure to set Interval Type as Manual

Now you are able to define the Material ID using alphanumeric and Special characters. Below, you can find some examles on how to set up the number ranges:

Example 1:

Total Length (including prefix): 5

Start Number: .

End Number: Z999Z

Interval Type: Manual

Then you can define Material ID like: 1X2-5, 5-01A, 1-99Z, A12J

Example 2:

Total Length (including prefix): 9

Start Number: .

End Number: Z9999999Z

Interval Type: Manual

Then you can define Material ID like: 0X001A-1A, 1256-01AA, 10001-99Z, 9X1234Z99, A1236GHAG
