Symptom

When using a DataDirect driver occasionally a line beginning with #QEWSD will appear inside of odbc.ini and cause any program using that connection to fail.

Reproducing the Issue

  • Use of any DataDirect driver
  • Crystal Reports (all versions)
  • Business Objects Enterprise (all versions)

Cause

The reason that the line is inserted into odbc.ini is one of the following:
                                                                                                                                   
Expired license file                                                                                                                
Wrong license file                                                                                                                  
No license file  

This is part of the copy protection used by DataDirect

Resolution

Contact DataDirect and get the license needed for the use of their driver.
