1299069 - Error Message "[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Timeout expired" when running Crystal Report in Designer

Symptom

  • Open Crystal Report in Designer with one or two values for Date parameter chosen then the reports gets opened.
  • If around 4-5 values are chosen then it gives following error "[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Timeout expired"

Cause

If you link to large text files (.txt or .html), an Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) Timeout error may occur. To permit Access to successfully transfer text data or to successfully link text data to Microsoft SQL Server, you must increase the QueryTimeout value in the registry, or you must disable the ODBC Timeout by setting the value to 0 (zero).

Resolution

The following registry key controls the Query Timeout value:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Jet\4.0\Engines\ODBC\QueryTimeout
